French Chateau- Chateau Forge du Roy
Chateau Forge du Roy is a beautiful 17th-century house surrounded by the most beautiful gardens in the Dordogne region of France. At only a few hours from Bordeaux, it is a great place to explore this stunning region. If you want to host an extravagant party or a family get together, holiday or wedding it is perfect for any occasion. You and your nearest can rent the chateau exclusively for the week from Saturday to Saturday and treat it as your own home. From the minute you arrive, you will get swept away in the French beauty and feel right at home. With so much space surrounding the chateau, you will feel very comfortable and probably never want to leave, as I didn’t.
Listening to the tranquil waterfall and birds in the background it is easy to fall in love with this place. The chateau has 184 acres to be explored and is surrounded by perfectly groomed gardens with the greenest manicured lawn and soft pastel coloured flowers everywhere you look.
There are onsite managers who live on the property if you need anything but they leave you in private to enjoy your holiday if all is well. They do however offer a basic cleaning service daily.
Your friends and family won’t be disappointed by this grand chateau. Accommodation is in two building and has a total of ten bedrooms with en suites. The main chateau has six bedrooms with en suites and is decorated with the finest furniture matching its old history; you will feel like a king or queen when you retire to your room at night.
The barn located across from the chateau at the other end of the property has four bedrooms with en suites. It is just as pretty, styled in French provincial furnishings, looking a little more modern and perfect for the building.
You won’t want to leave the grounds with the large heated swimming pool, pool house, and sauna. It has a gym, exercise studio and yoga room. It even has two treatment rooms for massage or beauty treatments.
They have log-burning stoves; a fire pit, and numerous outdoor entertaining areas all over the property- one is under the beautiful wisteria.
You also have the choice of numerous inside eating areas if the weather isn’t great or you prefer the cosy ambiance. You will feel like you are royalty inside the main dining room.
If you decide to venture outside the chateau you will need a car or bike as there is so much to see and do in the surrounding areas. The chateau’s website and information folder in the rooms suggest some great restaurants in the area and things to do. You have numerous villages to visit and markets on various days. There are plenty of outdoor activities in the area like hiking, bike riding, canoeing, golf and hot air ballooning to keep you busy.
With two fully equipped kitchens on the property and the beautiful outdoor eating areas, it is nice to use the facilities and enjoy the chateau. You can BBQ outside yourself or get outside caters if you don’t want to cook. We opted to have a few nights in and a few nights out to make the most of the week.
We came with children and although you have to watch them around the water with the waterfall, little river, lake and open plan pool, we found this place perfect for children. They have plenty of room to play, run free and enjoy the French countryside. The chateau supply games and activities for both children and adults but we found the pool with all the pool toys kept us all busy for hours.
The children enjoyed all the equipment they had available including table tennis, boules, badminton, soccer, and Frisbee.
Some of the children enjoyed fishing on the lake that is stocked with trout and carp. Obviously, the children need to be supervised by an adult at all times. All the fishing equipment is supplied by the chateau and was a hit with them especially for the children who caught their first fish (they put them back of course). You can fish from the lakeside or in the little rowboat.
Although I could fantasise about being here childfree for a few days of pure relaxation, it was great fun for us with children too.
For a wedding
If your looking for a perfect wedding venue then looks no further, this is quite possibly made for a romantic wedding. From the moment you walk into the ground, you will get swept away with the beauty and romance. With so many photo-worthy spots this is a wedding photographers dream. You can tailor your wedding to suit your needs and numbers with numerous spots for the ceremony and reception.
With accommodation for 20 people to sleep and the receptions held on the grounds, it is simply the best wedding venue all in the one place.
We stayed here for a week for my sister in laws wedding and it was perfect. They had an intimate affair and it was so beautiful. She organised it all and brought in outside caters, the band, the photographer and it was all perfectly orchestrated for their special day.
Due to the rainy weather on the day we had to have a backup plan for the wedding and the property had plenty of pretty places to suit an inside wedding also. They ended up doing the ceremony and reception indoors and it was just as beautiful if not more amazing than I could have imagined. When the sun came out later it was the perfect opportunity for the band to play in the garden and the bride and groomed danced under the trees. We then made the most of the outdoors until well into the evening when the sun set late.

We loved every minute of our week at the chateau and felt very privileged staying in such a beautiful place. I enjoyed everything it had to offer and never wanted to leave.
